AR Wentworth Thomas the Turtle pewter replica
A miniature pewter replica of one of Museums Sheffield's best-known objects - an early 19th Century soup tureen made of Old Sheffield Plate.
Turtle soup was a delicacy in the 1800s and many turtle-themed soup tureens were made for the tables of the wealthy and fashionable. Museums Sheffield holds a wonderful example in its metalwork collection and, in response to our visitors' fondness for 'Thomas the Turtle', AR Wentworth have produced an exclusive minitiature replica for us.
AR Wentworth is a Sheffield-based pewter manufacturer, founded by Arthur Wentworth in 1949. The company still uses traditional techniques and materials to produce high quality pewter products, exported all over the world.
Pewter miniature features a removable lid and measures 16cmx13cm (depth of base 2.5cm)
